Pedestrian hit and killed on I-10 in Jackson County

The man who died in an early morning accident on I-10 in Jackson County Sunday has been identified.
Authorities say a man from Pascagoula was driving west around 3 a.m. when he crashed into 38-year-old Kevin Antonio Smith of Gulfport who was walking along the left side of the interstate near mile marker 56.
Prior to the accident, Smith was reportedly driving west on the interstate when he lost control of his vehicle, crashing into an unoccupied Nissan Altima parked on the shoulder. A witness unsuccessfully attempted to stop Smith from leaving the scene. Shortly after was when Smith was hit. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
