Pearl River County woman enters plea deal in SNAP fraud case

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)-A Pearl River County woman has entered into a plea deal after a recent Mississippi Department of Human Services investigation into welfare fraud.
Betsy Johnson entered that plea in Pearl River County Circuit Court this month, after being accused of fraudulently receiving public assistance benefits.
The MDHS investigation uncovered that Johnson improperly received more than $22,000 in SNAP benefits by failing to accurately report her household income.
As part of the deal, Johnson was sentenced to six years’ probation and ordered to pay fines and restitution and investigate costs that amount to more than $23,000.
