Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department warns of Facebook market scams

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department is warning against scams going around on Facebook marketplace.

From counterfeit goods to armed robbery, buyers, and sellers are urged to use caution.

The sheriff’s department sharing that one common scam is the fraudulent purchase of a car or piece of equipment.

Fraudsters pose as a buyer, using a counterfeit cashier’s check or ACH wire transfer for payment.

By the time a victim is made aware of the payment, the property is gone.

Sometimes the victim is even left paying a car note on a vehicle they no longer have.

If you or someone you know has been a victim, you are asked to call central dispatch and report the scam.
