Pearl River Community College baseball representing South Mississippi with pride at World Series

POPLARVILLE, Miss. (WXXV) — No. 2 Pearl River Community College has officially started its quest for its second national championship in baseball.

The Wildcats run-ruled No. 10 Kellogg by a score of 11-3 in their first game of the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Oklahoma.

Although the team is nearly 12 hours and 800 miles from Poplarville, PRCC is bringing a big taste of South Mississippi to Enid, and doing so with pride and plenty of support. Head coach Michael Avalon spoke with WXXV about the significance of baseball in the Magnolia State, while standout student-athletes Jacob Johnson and Caston Thompson shared just how important it is to play with each other for a devoted fanbase.

Pearl River will now face in-state foe East Central Community College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Wildcats and Warriors have faced off five times this season, with the teams splitting a pair of games in the regular season and PRCC winning two more games over East Central in the postseason to win the Region 23 title.
