Pearl River Community College baseball ready to take on the Biloxi Shuckers in exhibition on April 3

Before the Shuckers can begin their regular season they have a scheduled exhibition against one of the top junior college baseball programs in the country – the Pearl River Community College wildcats.

On Wednesday the Wildcats will travel to Biloxi to take on the Shuckers in an exhibition contest for the second straight season. The game won’t county towards either teams overall record, but it is an opportunity for both teams to assess where they stand.

Sports 25 had the chance to speak with Wildcats head coach Michael Avalon and national home run leader Hollis Porter ahead of their matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers double-A ball club. They both spoke on why it’s such a great opportunity for them as they continue their dominance in the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference.

“well it puts a smile on your face because you know you are getting to go to a great ballpark and play, you know, professional baseball against a professional team,” said head coach Avalon. “It’s just something that we are going to embrace and have fun doing.”

“That’ll be a cool experience, I mean, you get to play the best of the best,” said Porter. “They are not there for no reason, I mean, they are the best players so it will be a cool experience.”
