Pearl River Community College baseball breaks program record for consecutive wins
Winning collegiate level games in any sport is difficult. Breaking records is even harder. They say records are meant to be broken and that is exactly what the Pearl River Community college baseball team did over the weekend.
Over the weekend, the Wildcats took on Coahoma Community College in a double-header with a chance at making some school history. After winning their first game 13-2 in just seven innings, the team set a new program record with the 29th consecutive win. They would add one more on Saturday for good measure and currently sit at 29 straight wins heading into the final ten days of the regular season.
Sports 25 had the chance to speak with head coach Michael Avalon and sophomore infielder Creek Robertson about the teams mentality now that the record has been broken.
“You know once the record was announced, and really the first time we had heard about it was last week, now that is out of the way and we can continue to just show up and go to work,” said head coach Michael Avalon. “We literally have no spoke about this streak as a team once. I think that has helped up. We don’t put any thought into it and we simply want to show up every day and play as well as we can and then let the chips fall where they fall.”
“Yeah that is exactly what it is, just one game at a time,” said infielder Creek Robertson. “Can’t look too far ahead into the future. Right now the most important game on the schedule is the next one, Wednesday against East Central.”
