Pass Christian Takes Steps Toward Economic Recovery
Tuesday, Mayor Chipper McDermott spoke in front of the local chamber of commerce at a breakfast meeting at the Boys and Girls Club. McDermott was proud to announce increases in city sales tax, which is currently running at about $100,000 per month. The Mayor also talked about his efforts to locate a multi-million dollar hotel on the city’s beach.
McDermott says, “I think the main point’s we’re making a little progress, and that’s all we’re going to make. We’re a small town, but as long as you’re making progress, that’s the important thing. There are some things that in the next couple of months, first of the year, some are being completed and some are taking off, so that’s a good sign.”
McDermott also addressed why it has taken so long to repair the city’s famous fishing pier. The Mayor pointed to the federal government’s slow reimbursement process for the project and a long wait for approval from the Army Corps of Engineers.
