Pass Christian officer assaulted

On Monday September 11, 2017, Pass Christian Police Chief Timothy Hendricks released information in reference to an assault on a police officer investigation.
At approximately 9:30 A.M. a Pass Christian Police Officer conducted a traffic stop for speeding near North Street and Clark Avenue. The driver of the vehicle (Miles Spears 21 years old) could not produce a valid license. The officer attempted to see if they could release the car to the passenger. The passenger (Aviana White 27 years old) became irate and refused to identify herself. Before the traffic stop was complete both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle. The officer gave verbal commands for them to get back into the vehicle. When they did not get back in the vehicle the driver was arrested without incident for disorderly conduct/failure to comply. The passenger was belligerent and tried to walk off and was stopped by the officer. The officer attempted to arrest her also for disorderly conduct/failure to comply when she pulled away from the officer. An altercation ensued with the female assaulting the officer. The officer deployed their taser in attempt to get the female to comply and stop resisting. Other officers arrived and assisted with the arrest. During the incident another family member arrived and tried to interfere with the arrest. She was also arrested but released at the scene. The passenger later advised of medical conditions and was released on the original charge to American Medical Response. The officer did not receive any significant injuries.
Additional charges may be pending on the driver and passenger. It was later discovered that the passenger had a warrant through Harrison County. Drug paraphernalia and a gun were also found in the vehicle. A full investigation into the incident is ongoing. It is a common practice to investigate any incidents when an officer is assaulted and force is utilized to affect an arrest.
