Pass Christian Middle School renames their gymnasium after a longtime coach and mentor, Kevin D. Woods Sr.

The legacy of a long-time coach and mentor in the Pass Christian community will now be honored forever.

Pass Christian middle school’s gymnasium has been renamed in honor of Kevin D. Woods Sr. who passed away earlier this summer. Woods was an impactful coach and educator for more than 30 years, and those who knew him in the community say he poured out all his love and care to every student that walked through the door each day.

His family gathered outside the gym to sign a plaque describing the basketball and football coach’s life. The pass christian school district says woods was more than a coach, he was a person who students looked up to for inspiration and mentorship.

His daughter, Kenyetta Woods Jones, said the people present at the ceremony demonstrate just how many lives he was able to touch and coach, whether in life or sports.

“As you can see, some of the people behind me, he has coached them. These are his grandchildren right here, this is his wife. All of these people behind me, he has coached them. In basketball, football, and life,” said Jones. “As our legacy goes on, these children as they grow up, they teach their children little bits and pieces of my father. He’ll always be with us.”
