Pass Christian head football coach stepping down
After beating Long Beach on the first Thursday of the high school football season, Pass Christian was the first school on the entire Gulf Coast to win a game. The Pirates never won again, and now, head coach Casey Wittman is moving on.
First reported by the Sun Herald and confirmed by News 25, Wittman finalized his resignation today and informed his players of that decision this afternoon.
The Pirates kicked off 2018 with a dramatic 34-31 Oyster Bowl victory over Long Beach, but followed that up with nine straight losses to end the season.
Wittman ran the pirate ship for a decade at Pass Christian, compiling an overall record of 25-76 with three consecutive five-win seasons prior to this one.
A St. Stanislaus graduate, Wittman tells News 25 “Pass Christian is a wonderful school district and I have been honored to represent it as their coach. We didn’t have the success we wanted on the field this season, but making the playoffs the previous two seasons has the program on solid ground.”
Wittman also says he’s open to coaching again one day.
