Pass Christian community shows support for 12-year-old Andre White

The funeral of 12-year-old Andre White was held this afternoon in Pass Christian.

There were a lot of tears as adults and children lined up to hug the family of Andre White. The Pass Christian 12-year-old died December 19th from DIPG, a highly aggressive brain tumor that occurs in the area of the brain stem. There is no known cure. He is the fifth child on the Coast to die from the disease.

Andre was a student at Delisle Elementary in Pass Christian. Former Principal Mandy Lacy tells News 25 they will never forget him. It was the last school Andre attended. “Andre was a very special student. He was very joyful and he will always be remembered by me, the staff, and all of the elementary school.”

Current Principal Jonathan Beasley was the assistant principal when Andre was a student at the school. Beasley and Lacy knew Andre well and put fundraisers together to help the family during his illness. “Two fundraisers through the school. Both times we were able to raise over $1,000 to help mom travel back and forth to Jackson.”

Beasley was also asked to stand up and lead a prayer for the family before asking if anyone else wanted to speak about Andre. “It’s just very sad that we have to deal with this. This terrible, terrible cancer. No kid should have to go through this. He is in a better place now and he is running and playing and he is in Heaven playing his Fortnite.”
