Pass Christian Alderman vote ‘no’ on development utilizing the harbor green space
Plans for a proposed project in Pass Christian have been scrapped after Pass Christian locals showed up in droves to the board of alderman meeting Tuesday.
City leaders even took to social media, calling the evening a ‘perfect example of folks coming together to solve an issue.’
The Pass Christian Board of Alderman voted unanimously to stop development in the Harbor Greenspace. This was two projects that would have added commercial businesses to the area. When the public got word of this, the idea was met with some backlash as many felt a commercial project like this wasn’t fitting with the atmosphere of pass Christian.
Alderman Victor Pickich felt the same way going into the alderman meeting on Tuesday, but tells us that having the public there echoing those feelings back to the board made the decision to do away with the project a lot easier. “Pass Christian has experienced significant growth over the past two years. So, what you have to look at with every project that comes before the board, not just this one, is it in keeping with the character and charm of Pass Christian? It’s always good to vote with the whole city behind you.”
Pickich tells us that the city is actually going to start considering some ideas that the public brought in at the board meeting, and one of those is possibly a city owned pavilion that could be used for public events that aren’t going to interfere with what the green space was originally for – which is recreational activities like fishing.
