Pascagoula Schools Address Residents’ Safety Concerns

In response to overwhelming public support, the Pascagoula School District announced last week they would be installing security cameras on their playgrounds.

Monday evening, at the Pascagoula School District meeting, several citizens were on hand to voice their concern about various issues. Common Core and overseas field trips were discussed, and some had thought that they would address questions regarding the incident two weeks ago regarding AvaLynn Harris. School officials declined to make a comment, but residents spoke up about the installation of the new cameras.

Nikki Tashiro, mom against Common Core, says, "I actually think it’s a great idea. I think it holds the teachers to more accountability, to not sit and gossip or play on their phones, because there are two teachers to a class and there is no reason that someone shouldn’t have seen what happened to that little girl."

The school district already uses cameras on their buses and in many school buildings.
