Pascagoula River Audubon Center hosted Arrival of the Least Terns fair this weekend
Those interested in learning about the arrival of the least terns on the Mississippi Gulf Coast gathered at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center this weekend.
Audubon Mississippi celebrated the least terns arrival by hosting a ‘tern fair’. This fair featured guided bird walks, a bird banding demonstration, educational booths, children’s crafts and games, and food trucks, as well as a spectacular view.
Melinda Averhart, coastal bird stewardship manager at Audubon Mississippi, says that Mississippi hosts one of the largest nesting concentrations of least terns in the world
The center will be looking for volunteers to help protect the terns from the loud booms and bright lights of fireworks during the Fourth of July Holiday.
