Pascagoula Prom Queen gives up crown to help another girl’s dream come true
Pascagoula High School Prom Queen Ky’Aziah Alexis-Thompson chose to give her classmate Martina Nelson her crown since Nelson had always dreamed of being prom queen.
Prom night is one event that seniors look forward to, not only to dance and have fun with their friends, but to see who will get crowned queen and king.
The ballot to vote had to be a certain percentage since it was out of the senior class girls, which is made up of more than 100 students.
After Thompson was crowned, she saw how emotional Nelson became and decided that prom night should be remembered as a good time for everyone and decided to share her crown with Nelson, especially since Nelson grew up being bullied at school. Ky’Aziah said, “I actually wanted to see Martina happy our senior year and someone did whisper in my ear to let me know she was kind of upset. I was like ‘oh, there is no need to be upset about it. This is me and your spotlight. We can share. This is for you. So, I just wanted to give her that feeling I had.”
Martina Nelson said, “It was an amazing time for me. I got crowned queen and I started crying because I was so happy and it was my last prom.”
Both girls will be graduating in May and they say they will try to keep in touch as much as they can.
