Pascagoula Participates in Cruisin’ for First Time Since ’07
This weekend, Pascagoula will be busy. They are kicking things off with Bachtoberfest, accompanied by the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra. After activities on Beach Park wrap up, cruisers will head over to the Pascagoula river front to kick off Cruisin’ the Coast. Edd’s Drive-In has been a staple in the Pascagoula community since it opened in 1950.
This weekend, the folks at Edd’s are embracing their 50s heritage during Cruisin’ the Coast. Walker Foster, owner of Edd’s Drive-In, says, “On Sunday, Edd’s will have everyone dressed in 50s costumes and they will be playing the part.”
Like many businesses in Pascagoula, Edd’s Drive-In will be open on Sunday so that those in town for Cruisin’ the Coast can enjoy some of their signature dishes, like chili hamburgers and milkshakes.” Foster also says, “We will have people coming back that have experienced Edd’s for many, many years, come in from out of town that generally will come back just to have Edd’s.”
Pascagoula is looking forward to the boom this weekend for local businesses, but city leaders hope some visitors will plan to come back once they see all the city has to offer. Darcie Crew of the City of Pascagoula says, “One of the reasons why the city wanted Cruisin’ to come back was to showcase many of the improvements we’ve made in the city and just to showcase Pascagoula and the great things that are happening here.”
Pascagoula’s events will feature arts and crafts vendors, food, kids’ activities, music, and of course, the vintage cruisers. For the city, it’s a chance to come together for not only fun, but a sense of pride. Suzanne Steinberger of the City of Pascagoula says, “I absolutely think it’ll be a great renewed sense of community. The riverfront is absolutely beautiful and we are excited to be able to utilize this space and really showcase our river and all the beautiful assets that Pascagoula has, and I think the community is definitely going to hold a sense of pride to that.”
City leaders, businesses, and residents hope their location will draw visitors from the east, from the Pensacola and Mobile areas so even more cruisers can be involved in Mississippi’s annual Cruisin’ the Coast. Bachtoberfest begins at 11 a.m. at beach front and Cruisin’ the Coast begins at 2 p.m. at river front.
