Pascagoula Launching Inaugural Fiesta de Cyclovia Nov. 8th

The City of Pascagoula is launching the Inaugural Fiesta de Cyclovia, a festival of cycle-ways celebrating human-powered transportation and Pascagoula’s Hispanic community. Pascagoula’s Riverfront and adjoining streets will be ALIVE with movement of all kinds, and people will be free to walk, run, bike, skate, dance – anything that gets them moving around! This will be the first Cyclovia event held in South Mississippi. The closest Cyclovia event held in Mississippi is Jackson’s "Jackson Streets Alive."

"We are very excited to do something to cast a spotlight on the influence of our Hispanic community," said Community and Economic Development Director, Jen Dearman. "Pascagoula’s Hispanic population has almost quadrupled in the last five years, and it has made our community better and stronger. This is our first step in celebrating its part in Pascagoula’s cultural makeup."

Fiesta de Cyclovia will feature the following:

*A non-competitive 10k, 5k, and 1 mile Fun Run – or – Roll to raise awareness about Pascagoula’s "Share the Road" campaign. Participants in these activities will be eligible for prizes!
*Interactive games and activities hosted by local businesses and organizations.
*Open fitness classes including Zumba, Cross fit, Yoga, Spinning, and more!
*Hispanic Heritage Festivities including local arts and crafts vendors, music, a flag guard performance, food, and more!

"We would like to extend a heart-felt welcome to anyone who would like to come and enjoy this event," said Outdoor Recreation Specialist, Kristi Ducote. "The joy of movement is one thing that unites us all, and this event is meant to help people find the activities that they enjoy doing so that we can all become more active and healthy in our daily lives."

The City is currently seeking vendors, activity partners, and volunteers for this event, which will take place on November 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Pascagoula Riverfront, located at 3104 Front Street. For more information, please call 228.938.2356.
