Pascagoula High sophomore named 2024 Mississippi Poetry Out Loud Champion

Pascagoula High sophomore Malisha Taylor is a 2024 Mississippi Poetry Out Loud Champion.

Taylor will receive $200 and Pascagoula High School will receive a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry materials.

Tayor recited the poem ‘Mansplaining’ by Jennifer Militello in the first round, ‘I felt a Funeral in my Brain’ by Emily Dickinson for the second round, and her winning recitation was ‘Burning in the Rain’ by Richard Blanco.

Mississippi Public Broadcasting recorded the competition and it will air on MPB at 7:30 on Friday, April 26th and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28th.
