Pascagoula City Council set to appoint new councilmember
The Pascagoula City Council is set to appoint a new member this week to fill the vacancy from Ward 3 Councilman Johnny Walker’s death last month.
It’s happening at Tuesday’s council meeting. According to state law and the resolution to fill the vacancy, the council will appoint someone to the position since there is less than six months remaining in the current term.
Walker had represented Ward 3 on the council since 2021.
Prior to his death, Walker was the only person to file for the Ward 3 seat in this year’s municipal elections and the question of a replacement on the Republican primary ballot for the seat will have to be answered moving forward.
