Pascagoula city budget update

The City of Pascagoula is now looking for a solution after a forensic audit revealed a $14 million shortfall in the city’s budget.

The city will now be increasing revenue and cutting expenses in order to work towards stabilizing their budget. Next week the Pascagoula city manager and his staff will bring forward a new budget breakdown to the city council.

Laurie-Ellen Smith, the community relations director for the city of Pascagoula, says they should have the official budget for the next fiscal year ready by September 15th. “Probably the most important thing that anyone can take is that the process calls for a lot of recommendations and a lot of discussions.”

Smith says the administration is working very hard to bring forth a thoughtful and deliberate set of recommendations for the next fiscal year budget.
