Pascagoula annexation plans to add 25 square miles to city limits

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV)- We have an update in the Pascagoula annexation, which plans to add just over 25 miles of land to the city’s limits.

Back on June 3, the city council adopted an ordinance to pursue the annexation of land east of the city.

City officials say room to grow is one of the major issues Pascagoula has faced in recent years and says that through the annexation, the city can expand its services and boost the local economy.

But one of the main questions that’s been raised is what development will look like in the annexed area.

WXXV sat down with Pascagoula Mayor Jay Willis, who points to a mix of residential and commercial development to be in the future. Watch the video above to hear what Mayor Willis has to say.

Mayor Willis also says this is step one of a lengthy process and that the next likely move going forward is bringing the case toward a judge.
