Park in the Works Near Biloxi Visitors Center

As you drive along Highway 90, you may have noticed a big construction site next to the Biloxi Visitors Center.

In just over a month, all that dirt will turn into a park. The park will have additional parking for the Visitors Center, a playground for children, and a pavilion to host events. A boardwalk is also being built around a restored wetlands area for people to walk through. The City of Biloxi is extremely excited for the $3.5 million project to be completed.

Bill Raymond, Historical Administrator for the City of Biloxi, says, "You know, thinking about what was here before Katrina and the commercial buildings that really encroached on the lighthouse, all of that is gone now. So really it does open up the space and opens up the view shed from the lighthouse. So now when visitors come, they get a closer experience to what it was like when the lighthouse was first built."

Construction on the park should be completed by the end of March and the pavilion will be done by the start of summer.
