Park at Hancock Whitney Plaza renamed after late CEO George Schloegel

On Thursday afternoon, hundreds gathered at the Hancock Whitney Plaza to dedicate the park after late CEO George Schloegel.

The park at the Hancock Whitney Plaza will now be know as George Schloegel Lighthouse Park, after a ceremony which was attended by George Schloegel’s family, community and business leaders from across the coast, as well as residents from various parts of South Mississippi.

The turn out for the ceremony was immense, which for Hancock Whitney Chief Executive Officer, John Hairston, came as no surprise.

“He was a son of Gulfport. He was born here, he was raised here, he served as mayor, and as president of the bank. He was on the board or chair for virtually every charitable organization which was in the city over time. George left a lot of friends and a big family behind. The turnout is not really a surprise, he was very loved by all.”

George Schloegel passed away in 2023 at the age of 83.
