Parents Upset After Moss Point Bus Driver Uses Racial Slurs

The Moss Point School District is investigating complaints against one of its bus drivers, accused of using racial slurs towards elementary school students. Action by the school district comes after parents have called on the Jackson County chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. to step in.

The President of the chapter, Curley Clark, says on Monday, a bus driver shouted racial slurs at several black elementary school students. Clark also says the bus driver has not been driving the route, where the incident occurred for the last two days. If the allegations prove to be true, the N.A.A.C.P. is asking for the termination of the bus driver. Parents say this behavior has been going on since the beginning of the school year and are concerned.

Ashly Lee, a concerned parent, says, “I went to his supervisor and it was supposedly looked into. I never got an answer. It was always, ‘We’re gonna’ investigate.’”

Atare Boler, another concerned parent, says, “That’s really my main concern is the safety of the kids. They don’t need to be on a bus with a bus driver using racial comments towards all of the kids.”

School district officials confirm they are conducting a full investigation.
