Parents react to alleged altercation on Jackson County school bus

On Tuesday night WXXV received a video from a St Martin Middle School parent which allegedly shows multiple children kicking and punching another child on a school bus. We will not be showing that video on WXXV but according to that parent the bus allegedly belongs to St Martin Middle School and happened on school grounds.

We reached out to the school over the alleged altercation but were told by a school employee that they have no comment and the incident is under investigation.

The family of the child who was allegedly hit has filed a report with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, which is now under review.

The parent of the child who recorded the video also stated that he sent the video to the school district and was told it was being investigated. That parent expressed to us their concerns over the incident.

“My child came home and told me there was a fight on the bus and he was able to video record it. I’ve seen one child basically being beat up and no staff to intervene. I’m uncomfortable enough that I took my children off of the bus and somewhat question whether they should still be at that school.”

We attempted to get in touch with the Jackson County School District Superintendent, David Baggett, over the issue but his assistant stated that he was unavailable and would not be able to make any comment concerning the incident with the students.
