Parents demanding answers after termination of Hancock County superintendent
Last week, the Hancock County School Board terminated Superintendent Teresa Merwin. Dozens of parents and educators attended tonight’s school board meeting hopeful for an explanation.
The board remained silent, which was infuriating for parents and others unable to comprehend why.
Merwin had been in office a little over a year and was adored by parents we spoke to. Some parents described her as a selfless leader always thinking about what’s best for the children. “If Mrs. Merwin did something that she’s not supposed to and she’s not supposed to be here so be it, but gives us answers.”
“To me, there’s no reason for us not to be told why she was let go.”
The Hancock County School District has a new interim superintendent, Rhett Ladner. He’ll serve the remainder of the school year.
