Parents concerned about school bus safety in Harrison County

Viewers on the WXXV Facebook page had strong reaction to the Harrison County school bus video. News 25’s Gina Tomlinson has been following this story and she has details.
Parents with kids who attend Harrison County schools have reached out to News 25 and claim this isn’t the first time they’ve experience problems with buses going over the speed limit.
One concerned parent, Brittany Lander, says her five-year-old son goes to Lizana Elementary School and he came home with a bloody lip. She says he told her it was from the bus driver’s driving.
Lander tells News 25 she’s called the Harrison County School District multiple times about buses driving carelessly down Cemetery Road where her family lives.
Lander shared video with News 25 that she says was taken by her husband in September. She says in the video the bus was going 60 down Cable Bridge Road where the speed limit is 35.
Lander says after her five-year-old got hurt riding the bus, she chose to drive her two kids to and from school. “He got off of the bus and his lip was all bloody and I said ‘Tyler what happened?’ and he said ‘mom, the bus driver was driving really fast’ and they tell me this every day. ‘She slammed on brakes to go around the curb and I fell off the seat and I hit my lip on the back of the seat.’ The school board assured me that they would start looking into this and watching these bus drivers and I guess it’s going to take one of our kids getting killed before something is actually done with these bus drivers.”
Other concerned parents have shared similar stories with News 25 about the Harrison County School buses and speeding issues. News 25 will have a full report at 9 and 10.
