Parents against Bullying

After a boy was sent to alternative school in Stone County for threatening to shoot up the school, parents now join together to address the underlying issue they believe is bullying.
Marsha Beach waited outside of the Stone County school board meeting hoping for two things. “That my son gets back in school and that he’ll be left alone.”
Taylor Beach is a sophomore at Stone County High School who was recently suspended for threatening to pull off a school shooting, an empty threat his mother says comes after he was being bullied and pushed to his limit.A group of parents and citizens in the community don’t support the threat he made but they say bullying is a serious issue in the Stone County School District and it needs to be addressed.
Katelyn Swackhamer, anti-bullying supporter, said, “He chose to sadly make a statement that was not smart but it was all the acts that led up to that, the choking, the spitting, the non-ending bullying that he has went through.” Katelyn attends college on the Coast and she’s felt the effects of bullying when her brother would come home from school after being shoved into a trashcan. She’s decided to stand behind the Beach’s and created a Facebook page to gather more support. “These kids need a voice and I want to be that voice. I want to bring more people that will be a voice with me.”
The school board did not make a comment about bullying at their schools nor did they have a decision about Taylor Beach’s future but they did tell parents and citizens in their meeting that the bullying policies can now be found on their website’s homepage.
