Parading Through The Pass
The city of Pass Christian finally got a chance to let the good times roll and residents couldn’t wait to put last year’s Mardi Gras shooting in the past for good and focus on the spirit of the carnival season.
We’re at the peak of the 2017 Mardi Gras season and this weekend, the St. Paul Carnival Association rolled through the streets of Pass Christian once again. 2017 King Of The St. Paul Carnival Association Donald Rafferty said, “It’s a tradition that’s been going on for over 100 years of parading and as the king, and I’m so proud to be it, couldn’t have been done without the last person to the first person, from the administration down. Everybody’s done a great job, I’m proud to be a part of it. ”
And with over 80 floats in the parade and people from all over the Coast attending, the Pass Parade is one of the longest Mardi Gras Celebrations each year.
Even with the memory of the shooting that took place at last year’s Mardi Gras Parade at the corner of Davis Avenue and Ladnier Street fresh on their minds, the people of Pass Christian are determined to come together and celebrate the carnival season.
And the city made sure attendees felt safer than ever this year by having plenty of extra security on site. Parade goer Janice Page said, “Yes sir, we feel real safe, we have a wonderful time. I hope they continue doing it, because it’s real good and the children enjoy it so it’s a wonderful thing.”
Other added safety precautions included barring parking along the entire parade route and installing more safety barricades than ever before to ensure that families could celebrate with peace of mind.
