Palazzo potentially faces long list of challengers
Midterm elections are practically a year away, but the race for Mississippi’s fourth congressional district is already garnering a lot of attention.
That’s because nearly a dozen candidates have already announced their bid to challenge U.S. Representative Steven Palazzo.
Qualifying begins in January and the list is already long. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell was one of the first to announce his plans to run.
More recently, State Senator Brice Wiggins put his name in the hat.
The full list of candidates intending to run so far include:
- Incumbent Steven Palazzo
- Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell
- MS Senator Brice Wigins
- Clay Wagner
- Carl Boyanton
- Raymond Brooks
- Louis Hooks
- Johnny DuPree
- David Sellers
- Graham Hudson
- Aaron Lee
- Alden Johnson
According to our media partner the Sun Herald, it is unusual the Republican incumbent is facing so many challengers, considering Palazzo hasn’t faced many well-known opponents since he took office in 2010.
A spokesperson confirmed Palazzo will be running for a seventh term in Congress.
Mississippi’s primary is June 7th.
