Pair of projects to cut down traffic in Gulfport presented to supervisors

The City of Gulfport is planning a pair of projects to cut down on traffic and ease parking congestion in some of its busiest areas.

The city presented its plans for a commerce corridor and harbor expansion projects to the Harrison County Board of Supervisors this morning.

The project will be funded by the Gulf Coast Restore Fund. The commerce corridor will be a connector from 16th Street at Canal Road east to an unnamed street on the east side of the water park and Gulfport Sportsplex Complex.

The corridor will help ease traffic between Canal Road to Highway 49.

The city is also planning a $1.2 million expansion at the harbor, near 20th Avenue, to add more parking south of Highway 90 and close to the beach front.
