Oyster shell recycling site open in Ocean Springs

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- A new oyster shell recycling site is now open in Ocean Springs, all thanks to the Nature Conservancy’s ‘Save our Shells’ program.

You can now leave your oyster shells from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday in the designated recycle bins at French Hermit Oysters in Ocean Springs.

The bins are for oyster shells only. The shells are intended for coastal waters, added trash contamination could make the shells unusable for restoration.

The Nature Conservancy plans to distribute over 500,000 pounds of recycled shells by the end of 2026 for the restoration projects in the Mississippi Sound.
