Owner tries to regain access to the Clothes Closet in Harrison County

A Gulf Coast woman hopes to regain access to a non-profit clothing donation site she says she organized a couple of years ago.

Shanna Borderlon is the founder of the Clothes Closet, located in Harrison County, where she collects and donates clothing items to families in need all over the Gulf Coast.

However, Borderlon says an ongoing disagreement with a Harrison County judge has left her without access to the closet and the clothing inside it for months now.

In response, Borderlon appeared before the Harrison County Board of Supervisors Monday morning asking to regain possession of the items in the closet so she can begin donating again. “The goal is to get the closet back to what it should be: a resource for our community, the citizens who need that resource.”

The board of supervisors filed a motion to release the items to Borderlon.

News 25 reached out to the Harrison County Youth Court for a comment and Judge Dickinson released this statement: “I take the position that the clothing items, etc., at issue are Intervention Court property pursuant to Miss. Code Ann. Section 9-23-19 which requires the property be used for intervention court purposes only.  If Mrs. Bordelon disputes that, I am happy to request an Attorney General’s opinion on the matter.  Bottom line: I want to be sure the law is followed with respect to the distribution of that property.”
