Overnight Fire Destroys Ocean Springs Home
An overnight fire ripped through an Ocean Springs home, leaving the three residents with little to no belongings. News 25’s Laurene Callander was on the scene and has the details.
Carina Guzman thought she heard sirens around her home early Friday morning. She assumed it was a truck passing by. When her husband urged her to come outside hours later, she could not believe what she saw. “I just saw it. It shocked me. He came out to walk the baby and he called me and he was like ‘come look’ and I was shocked. I was like, I only saw this side but now that I see the whole thing, it’s destroyed. I feel bad, it’s sad.”
Flames erupted in this Ocean Springs home on Deborah Street around 2:30 in the morning. The Gulf Park Estate Fire Department rushed to the scene and completely put the fire out within three hours. Thankfully, the two women and one man living in the home made it out alive with no injuries. Fire Chief Wayne Emile said, “There’s flames coming through the roof. It had already been lit. It looked like it had been burning for a while but with the wind, it didn’t help us at all. It carried off pretty fast.”
One of the residents, who was too distraught to be on camera, said this fire destroyed everything they own and she compares it to another Hurricane Katrina. “It makes me want to do something for them. I don’t know, help them out. Do something, it’s sad,” said Guzman.
For now, neighbors are just thankful the three residents made it out of their burning home without a scratch. They still realize the tremendous sentimental and physical loss they are all experiencing.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
