Outlining key priorities for new legislative session
The new legislative session for Mississippi started on January 2nd, officials outlining key priorities for this year’s session.
Governor Tate Reeves and Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann were in Jackson for the annual MEC Capital Day today.
Several business leaders from all over the state also attended the event, meeting with both leaders.
Governor Reeves asked for additional money to develop industrial sites around the state, to attract business and create jobs.
Lt. Governor Hosemann is pushing for Last Dollar Tuition Free for students attending the state’s community colleges. Governor Reeves said, “We’ve done things in the area and the realm of site development that no other state in America is doing. One of the biggest challenges to new economic development projects in America today is the lack of ready sites. That’s true in Mississippi, but it’s really true around the country. We got a lot going and you might can tell I’m excited about it.”
Lt. Governor Hosemann said, “This next year, we’re going to propose we have Last Dollar Tuition Free community colleges. We have great community colleges; our young men and women deserve the opportunity to get that degree that puts them up in your specialty areas whatever it may be.”
