Operations Cost Kemper Power Plant

Documents filed recently project Mississippi Power’s Kemper County Power Plant operations and maintenance will cost one billion dollars in its first five years. That’s in addition to the 6.9 billion the plant is already spending for construction.
The one billion estimates are four times more than was previously quoted by Southern Company.
Mississippi Power says it will take more money to support the investment, but opponents could argue before the Mississippi Public Service Commission that customers shouldn’t pay for the increased costs for the plant, designed to burn gasified coal and capture carbon dioxide.
