Opening of Hurricane Katrina Exhibit at Studio Waveland

WAVELAND, Miss. (WXXV)- We are three weeks away from the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s landfall on the Mississippi Coast.

In Waveland, some organizations are dedicating the entire month to raise awareness on one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters.

Friday night was the opening reception of the Katrina Exhibit at Studio Waveland. It features several pieces made during and after the events of Katrina, with a central theme of healing after 20 years.

The reception was a collaboration between the gallery and the Ground Zero Hurricane Museum.

For the curators of the gallery, it serves as critical part of history the Coast will never forget.

The reception was just the first in many events that are planned leading up to Katrina’s 20th anniversary.
