One Year of Biloxi Shuckers Baseball
Today marks the official one year anniversary of the Biloxi Shuckers.
Although the Shuckers franchise began play last April, June 6th, 2015 was the first official home game at MGM Park. It was a long process and after 54 games on the road, fans welcomed the Shuckers home and the team won their first home game.
The Shuckers went on to make it to the Southern League Championship in their inaugural season.
Shuckers infielder Garrett Cooper tells News 25 having a home team in Biloxi has brought something different to the Coast. “It brings out a big crowd. It brings people that probably would never have watched baseball or they do and it gives them something to do besides casinos. It helps bring out another kind of crowd.”
Biloxi Shuckers Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting Chris Harris said, “It doesn’t seem like it’s been a year. This time last year, we were wrapping up that 54 game road trip. To think it’s been a year, it’s just pretty surprising.”
The Shuckers are on the road playing the Montgomery Biscuits. Before they left Biloxi, the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum celebrated the Shuckers one year anniversary.
