One week until Municipal Primary Elections in South Mississippi

DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (WXXV) – We are now officially one week from Municipal Primary elections here in South Mississippi.

Next Tuesday, April 1st, will be your chance to make your voice heard. Here’s what you need to know to make sure you’re ready to cast your vote as we inch closer to election day.

For those of you who need to vote absentee, in person absentee voting will be available through this Saturday, March 29th from at your local municipal clerk’s office. Be sure to check with your local office for any specific instructions.

Diamondhead City Clerk Jeannie Klein breaks down what voters in her city can expect when filling out their ballot. “On election day, polls will be open from 7 am to 7 pm in Diamondhead. We have two precincts, Ward 1 votes here at City Hall in the activities center. The other precinct is the community center. Wards 2, 3 and 4, votes in the community. We are currently absentee voting from 8 to 5 each day. Saturday, this coming Saturday, the 29th is the last day to vote or cast an absentee ballot. Our office will be open from 8 until noon.”

Now if you’re anything like me and tend to misplace things like your driver’s license or wallet, you have nothing to fear. You will still be able to cast your vote as long as you have your voters registration card, a U.S. passport, a government identification card, or any of these items that you see on your screen. These are all acceptable forms of identification for you to cast your vote.

If no candidate gets a majority vote in any of these primary races, there will be primary runoff elections on April 22nd, and the general election is scheduled for June 3rd.

For more details like where to vote in your specific city and to view sample ballots, head over to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s website or contact your local clerk’s office.
