One week left for Swingster Property bids in Jackson County

The property once home to the old Swingster building in downtown Ocean Springs is one step closer to future development.
County supervisors are still accepting bids for the property and prospective developers have until Monday, March 20th to submit their sealed bids.
The county has been looking to sell the property ever since the building was demolished last November. The minimum bid for the 2.1 acre property located on Government Street is set at one million dollars.
District 4 Supervisor Troy Ross says the property will be a win-win for the city and the county once it starts generating revenue again. “The options are limitless. Anything that can fit in a C2 zoning and the price mark we’ve got at $1 million, I think it’s going to cause the market to determine this to be a good project. It’s not going to be a project that is underperforming or where somebody just comes in and just holds the property. At that price point, I don’t think we’ll see any of those issues.”
The bids will be opened and read publicly at 1:15 p.m. March 20th in the Jackson County supervisors meeting room in Pascagoula.
