One person dead in fatal accident in Ocean Springs

Police in Ocean Springs are at the scene of a fatal accident at the railroad tracks near Hickory Drive.

The collision happened just after 11 a.m. One person was killed.

Capt. Ryan LeMaire said witnesses told police the man was walking westbound on the tracks when the train approached. LeMaire said the engineer sounded his horn and applied the breaks, but the victim never moved off the tracks.

The scene was cleared before 2 p.m.

LeMaire said the victim had no ID. The coroner will release his identification at a later date.
