One dead in Jackson County rest stop area accident

On Tuesday, March 05, 2019, three New Orleans area college students were traveling east on Interstate 10 when they stopped at the Eastbound Rest Area in Jackson County to use the facilities.

Upon returning to their vehicle one of the travelers, a 21 year old female, was struck and killed by a tractor trailer tire that had broken free from a vehicle driven westbound on the Interstate.

Information of the victim, and those involved, are being withheld until such time that notification can be made to family members.
