American long jumper, Olympic gold medalist, and a seven-time world champion, Brittney Reese will become Gulfport High’s girls track and cross-country coach.

At tonight’s school district meeting, the board announced Reese’s anticipated addition to Gulfport High School. The school hopes to add more state championships to their legacy under her leadership.

For Reese, the goal is to get students scholarships, be a role model, and positive influence to her community.

Gulfport High School’s track and field turf is under construction, giving students an updated athletic experience. “I think I was put on here on Earth to win medals and compete but to inspire and the best way for me to inspire these kids is for me to be out there with them and guide them in the right direction on and off the track. Everybody knows Gulfport High is a school in Mississippi and we want to keep it up there and get a lot of people scared of us and go in there and get more medals and get more state championships and getting these kids scholarships. That’s what it is about.”

Gulfport High is also adding indoor track to their athletic program.
