Ole Miss WR John Rhys Plumlee to enter transfer portal

One of the most electrifying high school football players to ever come out of South Mississippi is looking for a new home for his senior year of college.

Ole Miss junior wide receiver John Rhys Plumlee is entering the transfer portal just two days after the Rebels’ 21-7 loss to Baylor in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

In 2019, Plumlee was a true freshmen phenom for the Rebels under Matt Luke, throwing for more than 900 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 12 scores en route to being named a Conerly Trophy finalist.

At the end of his sophomore season, he converted to wide receiver prior to the Outback Bowl and has since caught just 25 passes for 280 yards.

In addition to football, Plumlee also played two years of baseball as an outfielder for the Rebels.

In a Twitter post today, he says “my heart is full and although change is hard, I know change allows each of us to grow and gives us a great opportunity to trust God.”

Possible landing spots for Plumlee include UCF and Indiana where he’s being recruited for quarterback and baseball. According to a source, Southern Miss is at least in the discussion.

Plumlee was a four-star recruit out of Oak Grove High School.
