Ole Miss/ Pearl River Central alum Hayden Dunhurst drafted in 6th round by KC Royals

Fresh off his national championship with Ole Miss less than a month ago, Pearl River Central alum Hayden Dunhurst getting the call in the sixth round, 175th overall, courtesy of the Kansas City Royals with a slot value of more than $298,000.

Perhaps the unsung hero of the Rebels’ College World Series run as the primary backstop for a red-hot pitching staff that allowed only 25 runs in 11 NCAA Tournament games.

Dunhurst also nabbed 39 percent of base stealers during his time in Oxford to go along with 18 career jacks.

His former Head Coach at PRC Neil Walther tells News 25 “He deserves all the good that happens to him. The pitchers in the Royals draft class this year are going to be very happy.”

He was the 155th ranked draft prospect.
