Ole Miss Men’s Golf wins Fallen Oak Invitational, securing back-to-back team wins to close our fall season
Some of the country’s very best collegiate golfers have been on the Mississippi Coast the past four days competing in the Fallen Oak Invitational. 13 prestigious universities competed for team and individual championships during a 54-hole, six play, five count, four low scores tournament.
Protecting the greens of their own state, Ole Miss earned back-to-back team wins for the first time since 2016 at the invitational. Along with the championship win, Kye Meeks had a new career low 18-hole score on Sunday with 65, and finished second overall -6.
Here’s what Meeks and Head Coach Chris Malloy had to say about closing out the fall season with a win.
“It’s so cool! said senior golfer Kye Meeks. “We’ve worked so hard and to see some work come into fruition is so cool. We’re so grateful to have this opportunity. We’ll go into the off-season with some really good vibes, so I think it’s huge, but you know our work isn’t finished. We’ve still got a lot of stuff that we want to do that everybody on this team wants to do so we’ll have a little bit of time off, but we’re going to get right back to it.”
“It means everything to end the fall like this. It’s probably the most impressive fall season that I’ve ever been around,” said Head Coach Chris Malloy. “They’ve finished second twice in a row and then we’ve won our last two, so I don’t know what our overall record is. I think it’s probably something like 52-2, so it’s a good start to the season. A good way to go into our off-season, but we’ve got to continue to get better and regroup and be an even better version of ourselves come spring.”
Congratulations again to the Ole Miss Men’s golf team on their championship win, and we here at WXXV look forward to covering next year’s Fallen Oak Invitational!
