Ole Miss meets with NCAA committee on infractions Monday
As Ole Miss prepares for its biggest game of the season at Cal Berkeley, it’s also fighting for the fate of the football program for years to come at this week’s hearing with the NCAA committee on infractions.
This morning, school administration as well as former head coach Hugh Freeze arrived at the Embassy Suites in Covington, Kentucky to share their sides of the story. The governing body has set aside two to three full days for this meeting, as both parties wade through the mess of 21 allegations, 15 of which are considered to be level 1.
The university is contesting at least portions of nine of them and five of them are tied to Mississippi State linebacker Leo Lewis.
The most serious violation being challenged is the lack of institutional control as well as the failure to monitor charge levied against Freeze.
The Rebels have already self-imposed a post season ban for 2017, but further punishment wouldn’t be handed down for another six to eight weeks following the hearing’s conclusion.
