Ole Miss head basketball coach steps down
A week ago today, Ole Miss head basketball Coach Andy Kennedy announced he would step down from his post at the conclusion of the 2018 season. Yesterday, he sped up that timeline.
The winningest coach in program history is no longer the head man in Oxford effective immediately. In a press release from the university, Kennedy states his feelings that his decision failed to relieve his current players of any external pressure to succeed.
The Rebels’ current seven game losing streak would certainly support that notion, the most recent two defeats coming after last week’s announcement.
Assistant Coach Tony Madlock will serve as the acting head coach for the remainder of the season.
Here’s part of Kennedy’s official statement given yesterday: “My continued presence as the head coach is proving detrimental to these players finishing the season in a fashion that is representative of the standard for this program. I believe that is in everyone’s best interest that I exit my role as head coach effective immediately.”
