Ole Miss bowl ban upheld by the NCAA
Six years later, the Ole Miss football saga finally has a conclusion. It’s not quite the one the Rebels were looking for, but the NCAA is willing to compromise on one of its original sanctions.
Today, the governing body released the infractions appeals committee decision, upholding the 2018 post-season ban and the charge for a lack of institutional control.
Conversely, the IAC reversed its penalty on unofficial recruiting visits entirely, stating it abused its discretion when prescribe the sanction.
In a letter from Chancellor Jeffrey Vitter and Director of Athletics Ross Bjork, they claim the NCAA enforcement model to be “broken” and ill-equipped to handle complex cases.
The violations of concern stem back to Houston Nutt and Hugh Freeze.
