Ole Miss begins spring practice
Perhaps 2018 will finally be the year that the Ole Miss football program finds some common equilibrium under Gulfport native Matt Luke. This will be his first spring with the Rebels as the full-time head coach.
The interim label was removed following November’s Egg Bowl victory. Today his team started building on that momentum for the first day of spring practice.
Although Luke coached the Rebels for a full season before getting the permanent gig, he says changing the culture is still a work in progress. It’s over the next few weeks he hopes to win in the locker room behind a new class of veteran leadership. “Our culture really improved from the beginning of the season to the end of the season, so we just want to keep building on that, building on the positive momentum of the Egg Bowl, just keep building on that culture. But a team, I don’t want us to be offense and defense, I just want to see the team. I want to see who the leaders are going to be, and so I kind of know who some leaders are, but I want to see some more leaders emerge of guys that will take control and hold other players accountable. That’s really what I want to see, I want to see who’s going to lead.”
Ole Miss spring practice concludes on April 7th with the annual Grove Bowl.
